Eldredge 2010 Riesling

Last night was a hot night here in Adelaide and having just come off the beach I was in the mood for a Rose. Not being at home I looked in the fridge finding a bottle of Rockfords Alicante Bouchet, but I felt bad about robbing it from the in-laws. So I whipped down to the local bottle shop and having discovered what a horrible selection of Rose they had I was left standing there thinking oh crap what now?...... Then I stumbled across this little beauty the Eldredge 2010 Riesling and I couldn't pass it up.

Eldredge is a family owned winery in the Clare Valley, South Australia. It's located off the beaten track so to speak and well worth a visit if you're ever in the area, they have a postcard cellar door set on a little lake. I like what they do, making affordable wines of high quality and boy do they deliver!

Eldredge have an outstanding track record when it comes to producing Riesling, with the 05 as a standout and the 12 won gold at the Clare Valley wine show after being in the bottle for only 2 weeks! The 2010 has picked up a bunch of awards as well including gold at the Clare Valley wine show, which makes it back to back golds at the Clare Valley wine show for Eldredge.

Eldredge 2010 Riesling
In the glass this wine has a clear pale straw colour, with a thin film when swirled around in the glass. On the nose there is subtle lime and citrus characters. The palate has immediate lime with strong but clean acidity with a medium minus body followed by mineral. It has a long clean crisp dry finish with lemon, lime and mineral.

I really loved this wine. I loved it because it was different from other Clare Valley Rieslings where the acid isn't in your face as much and that lets the minerality show through more. It has a great balance of fruit and acid and is just really well made.

I would highly recommend this wine and I'm gonna wrap this up and slap 95pts on it. As I picked it up for only $16 I think it's a seriously good buy! and as testament to that I have already gone back for another bottle today.....

Ciao,
